Hi Doctor,
What is the minimum number of follicles visualized on ultrasound for egg retrieval? If only 3 or 4 follicles (measuring 20mm+) are visualized, would you cancel the cycle? Or would you proceed with egg retrieval?
Thanks for your input.
Egg Retrieval
Re: Egg Retrieval
We have no "minimum." Some patients cannot produce more than one or two at a time.
If three or four is what we think is all the patient is capable of producing we would certainly proceed to egg retrieval. It would also depend on if they we synchronized and mature.

Re: Egg Retrieval
How can you tell if the egg is mature prior to retrieval? By the follicle size? And what does it mean when eggs are synchronized? Thanks in advance for your input.
Re: Egg Retrieval
You can't really tell until you retrieve them but you can get an indication by the combination of follicle size and estrogen level.
Synchronized means that they are about the same size.
