Day 3 vs Day 5 transfer
Day 3 vs Day 5 transfer
Hi Dr., Can you explain the difference between a day 3 and a day 5 transfer? I was under the impression that a day 5 transfer yields better results. However, my clinic seems to do many day 2 and day 3 transfers. What is the deciding factor between which day a patient's transfer happens? Thank you in advance.
Re: Day 3 vs Day 5 transfer
The reason to do Day 5 transfers is to be able to make the selection of the best embryo(s) to transfer.
If there is no selection to be made then the Day 3 is just as good.
Of course the implantation rate on Day 3 is less than with Day 5 embryos because those that make it to Day 5 have shown that they have what it takes to make it to Day 5. Many Day 3 embryos will not make it to the Day 5 stage so fewer of them will implant but you don't know which will and won't make it on Day 3.
