Luteal Phase Spotting

Post by lem7755 »

I am 34 and trying to conceive for the first time. We have been trying for about six months. I regularly have spotting during my luteal phase. My OBGYN did a sonohysterogram to check for cycts, and the were none. She then put me on 50mg of Clomid, which I completed this past month. I went in for my 21 days labs (when I was only 3 dpo) and my progesterone level came back at 15, which she told me was good for 3 dpo. She was hoping the Clomid would clear up the spotting, but I have had spotting every day since 5 dpo. I am now at 12 dpo, or cycle day 30. I typically ovulate around day 18-19 and have 32-34 day cycles. The spotting is generally brown, and not super heavy, but enough that I need to wear a liner. This month, I did have one day of red bleeding, but the rest has been brown. I'm very frustrated as I don't even feel like we have had a chance to get pregnant, and I am wasting months of using Clomid when it's very unlikely that I'll be able to get pregnant. Is it time for us to see a fertility specialist? I would appreciate your thoughts! Thank you!

I think you need to go beyond the sonohysterogram and have a hysteroscopy as polyps can be missed on the sono.

With a progesterone of 15 only 3 days after ovulation it's not likely that it's a hormone problem that will be corrected by Clomid.

Since there is not an easy solution I would definitely consult a reproductive endocrinologist and have that doctor do the hysteroscopy and then plan a strategy to overcome this issue.

Fear not. There's a good chance that a good RE should be able to deal with this to help you conceive but do not waste any more time and get more frustrated.
