Low hcg and recurrent miscarriage

I am 38 and have had 2 miscarriages in the last 2 years. At 5 weeks pregnant I start to spot and my hcg doesn't rise much. The spotting increases and hcg starts to fall withing a week. I've had kids from previous marriage at age 20 and with no complications. But now it's hard to fall pregnant and I lose it. Should I be taking progesterone from now to increase my chance of falling pregnant and so that I don't miscarry? What other options do I have and I refuse to go through IVF.

The most common cause of miscarriage is a chromosomal abnormality in the embryo, so progesterone will not do any good except to prolong the process if that's the case.

I hope your doctor has done a thorough workup for recurrent miscarriage. A timed endometrial biopsy could show if you have a progesterone issue rather than just taking progesterone empirically.

If the workup shows nothing wrong then if you are not willing to do IVF with preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) you could keep trying and hope for a chromosomally normal pregnancy which will succeed.
