IVF question

When do you turn to IVF in a couple's attempt for pregnancy? What factors come into play besides age? Do you always try IUI first or does it depend on the situation?

Hi:

There are some instances when we go right to IVF: tubal blockage, the most severe sperm problems or no sperm requiring a procedure to get sperm and the need to perform PGD (preimplantation genetic diagnosis for single gene defects).

In all other cases we need to evaluate the problem and, when appropriate, plan a reasonable attempt at conservative treatment like fertility drugs, IUI and a combination of the two. One important factor in determining how long to0 persist with conservative treatment is how long the couple has been trying. another is the age of the female partner.

Good luck.
