IVF/ICSI with frozen sperm

Post by emmasmom »

Hi,

My husband and I will be starting an IVF with ICSI at RP Redondo Beach next month if our 5th insemination didn't work (still crossing fingers in 2ww).

My husband has poor sperm parameters across the board (a varicocele was confirmed by a urologist recently). My husband had been taking Prozac when we first started treatment a year and a half ago, but it was suggested he stop as it may be hurting his sperm morphology (he did).

He would now like to start taking it again. I know the ICSI process would select the very best sperm, but I am concerned about his DNA fragmentation being affected by an SSRI- the urologist gave him this test and the results were excellent.

My question is:

Is it possible to store semen samples to use during the IVF process before he starts the medication, and would frozen sperm hurt our chances of success? What would you advise in this situation?

Thank you

Hi:

As long as ICSI is being used, frozen specimens would be acceptable and are used frequently for various reasons. Since I do not know your partner's specific issues, I would suggrest you ask your primary RPMG doctor for an opinion based on your partner's specific sperm issues.
