RPMG’s Dr. Arthur Wisot quoted in National Enquirer

RPMG’s Dr. Arthur Wisot is quoted in this week’s edition of the National Enquirer. He was asked about possible surgical complications if Angelina Jolie were to have her ovaries removed because of the BCRA gene as she apparently has become very thin. They allege that she is only 90 pounds on her 5’7″ frame.

“There is always a risk of complications, even death, in a healthy individual undergoing surgery,” Dr. Arthur Wisot, clinical professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at UCLA, who has not treated Angelina, told The ENQUIRER. “it appears Angelina has a BMI (body mass index) well below normal, which would increase her risk from the anesthetic. The possible complications include cardiac arrhythmia and electrolyte imbalance. That’s the combination of factors that killed singer Karen Carpenter. “If Angelina were my patient, I would want her to have a normal BMI before surgery because I would want her to be in optimal health.”
