In the story a 26 year old apparently developed ovarian hyperstimulation (OHSS) following a cycle of egg freezing. She was not a patient of RPMG or Dr. Huang. In the story Dr. Huang commented on egg freezing’s growing popularity.

Unfortunately they did not include a comment on the fact that new techniques of triggering the eggs’ release with Lupron, rather than hCG, could prevent the development of OHSS almost 100% of the time.

From the story: “And as more and more celebrities openly share about their freezing eggs experiences (i.e., Maria Menounos, Sofia Vergara), we can expect the procedure to become more mainstream. Dr. Andy Huang of Reproductive Partners Beverly Hills says he’s seen a steep incline of patients in the last eight years.

With its popularity on the rise, Huang says he’s seen the procedure become more affordable. The cost to freeze your eggs is anywhere between $7,000 to $15,000. Huang says the irony is that you’ve spent your entire 20s trying NOT to get pregnant, only to be in your late 30s, having to try so hard.

Huang reminds us that what Vicki had is extremely rare. Less than 1 percent.”

And it’s less than that when :Lupron trigger is used.
