Low abdominal pain in the luteal phase

Post by ariadne »

Hi Dr. Wisot:

I am in the late luteal phase of the current cycle and experiencing increased pressure and sometimes pain in the low abdomen. It has been going on like this for about 10 days; started about a couple of days after my OPK turned positive. The pain occurs infrequently (on both ovaries, not at the same time), is of short duration, but quite sharp. Usually I feel the pressure around the time of the period start, and the sharp brief pain around the time of ovulation; this is not the case now.

Could these be the symptoms of an early miscarriage?

I had an ultrasound two days ago that didn't reveal anything unusual. I was told that the corpus luteum could not be seen, but that there was an area containing leaked fluid.

Thanks.

Hi:

It's really impossible to interpret what symptoms like this might mean from here. The normal ultrasound is reassuring that there is probably no major problem.

But in tha late luteal phase if you did have an implantation that is not destined to create a successful pregnancy there would be no symptoms.

Good luck.
