A great deal of success in reproduction is about control. Clomid can increase your control over the timing of ovulation and understanding when ovulation will occur to time intercourse or IUI more accurately.
Clomid may also result in multiple eggs developing which can increase the chances in cycle when this occurs by a factor related to the number of mature eggs developed. That's why there is a 10% chance of twins in Clomid pregnancies.
In addition Clomid can improve the production of progesterone in the second half of the cycle.
In order to be most effective, it's helpful to track follicle development with ultrasound and an ovulation predictor kit.
