What role does vitamin D play in regards to fertility. During my consultation I was given a blood test to test my Vit D levels. I was then recommended to take 4000 IU of Vit D a day. I am curious as to why this specific test was done.
Second question, Is it possible that my vitamin D deficiency can be attributed to an problem with absorption of Vitamin D and not a lack of Vit D?
Vitamin D
Re: Vitamin D
There is both human and animal evidence that Vitamin D is helpful in successful reproduction. In rats with Vitamin D deficiency the fertility rate can be reduced by 75%. The fertility rate in humans is reduced in the winter months in colder climates when sun exposure is less.
Most Vitamin D deficiency is from poor intake rather than malabsorbtion.
