Semen Analysis Help/Infertility

Post by NTH0728 »

I recently had a semen analysis. My girlfriend was very concerned that we wouldn't be able to have a child (something that is of great importance to her) and I wanted to comfort her. That backfired. I was referred to a specialist, but I can't afford it (college student) and my doctor couldn't adequately interpret my results.

My volume (2.5ml), count (72.6), and overall motile including rapid, slow, and non-progressive (52.1%) were normal. Every other measure was within normal measurement except...

Rapidly Motile (1.8%)
Norm Mrph Forms (8%)
Ph (8)
Motility Index (71)

I can't find conclusive information about this. I know I'm still fertil, but am I likely to have a difficult time conceiving? My relationship literally hinges on my ability to give this woman a child. If I'm below average, she's going to drop me like a stone. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi:

The motility and morphology issues are common and can be helped. The first issue is stopping any lifestyle habits that might be affecting your sperm like smoking, drugs, excessive alcohol and caffeine.

If you check out our lifestyle and fertility pages you will see a link at the bottom that recommends supplements like omega-3's and antioxidants that can help.

In any case, these issues can be treated.

A little relationship advice: If this is a deal-breaker for her maybe she isn't "that into you."

Good luck.

Thanks for the response.

I am a health and exercise science specialist and an RD. My diet is impeccable, my fitness is top notch, I don't smoke, drink, do drugs, or drink coffee more than a few times a week. Have there been any studies done that can give me a better idea about what types of improvements I can expect to see using supplements?

The deal-breaker thing is ridiculous by my standards too, but she's Iranian, and they just value different things unfortunately...

I'm glad to hear that your health habits are good.

It's hard to say how much improvement you could expect from supplements since we do not know the cause of your issues.

The best way to find that out would be to see a specialist in male fertility to see if there is a specific cause. I think we are seeing a great deal of this due to environmental issues which we cannot control. I wish I could be more specific.
