I have a friend age 48 who has a sudden desire for a child. She does not have children and had her tubes severed more than 15 years ago. I am unsure if she has experienced the onset of menopause yet.
What are the chances that her eggs could be successfully harvested with the intention of using a surrogate? Could she possibly go through invitro and carry a child herself?
If she has infact started menopause is there any chance that her eggs are salvageable ?
Also, what is the typical cost of either invitro or a surrogate
egg harvesting likelihood of success
Re: egg harvesting likelihood of success
Hi:
At age 48 it would be possible to do IVF but it would be extremely unlikely to work. Having any symptoms of menopause would make it even less likely.
The good news is she could do egg donation and probably could carry the baby herself unless she has medical or uterus issues.
The better news (which everyone is hearing for the first time) is that RPMG is now associated with Donor Egg Bank USA, making frozen eggs from the bank available exclusively to our patients in Southern California. It will make donor egg cycles much shorter and less expensive. If your friend is interested have her check it out at donoreggbankusa.com.
