Good evening. My Question is about egg reserves. I have heard that women lose approximately 1000 eggs each month. This is a big concern for women in their late 30s onwards who may want children, particularly if their reserves are already low.
What happens during pregnancy? Do women continue to lose eggs during pregnancy, or do egg reserves stop diminishing during this time? Thank you in advance for your reply. Penny
Egg reserves during pregnancy
Re: Egg reserves during pregnancy
Hello Penny. We often get this question of whether or not pregnancy or birth control pills will stop the decline in egg reserve. Unfortunately, pregnancy and birth control pills will not stop this process. Over time, with advancing age, both egg quantity and quality decline.
Since many women are delaying pregnancy to a later age these days, one option to consider is fertility preservation with egg freezing. This may be something you would want to speak with a reproductive endocrinologist about.
